My Heart Still Mistakes You for Love
I believed it. That love was easy,
As he would say something cheesy.
I thought you’d catch me, so I let down my guard
As I fell for you… really hard.
I melted with every word you had spoken…
Nonchalantly, you left me… broken.
Love should not hurt
Or make you feel like dirt.
If you feel like that, don’t keep your mouth shut
Get out of there, you and him -cut.
Care. About. yourself.
You are a magnificent story, anxious on a shelf
And one day someone will come.
You are worth more than just a crumb.
For someone to look at the demons swimming through your mind
And says, “You’re beautiful” despite their screaming behind.
For someone hit with spiteful words out of your impulsive anger
And then hold you tight rather than treat you like a stranger.
When they push the knife into the hole of your heart
To stop the bleeding… not for it to start.
It’s not his fault the one before him showed you pain,
And he doesn’t leave or cause you any strain;
Instead, he sits, he waits, for you to realizes he isn’t going anywhere
Then he asks, “Do you have any love to spare.”
Even though feeling pain means feeling something…
It is not truly better than feeling nothing…
Do not fall for the same lies, you were once made a fool of…
And learn to love and be loved.
