My Heart's Protector

To the boy who's got my heart,

You get me.

And let me tell you,

there is alot to "get."

Yet you get all of it.

Remind me again how you do that?

It seems to slip my mind sometimes

that I don't have many people in the inner circle of my heart because I don't trust.

But you know.

And you know that I hold my heart very close to my soul

under tight wraps

so it stays safe.

And because you know and because you get it,

you managed to lean in close to my soul

and say,

"It's okay. I've got this. I'm here to protect it."

And my soul studied your soul and found your genuine goodness

and it said,

"Okay. I see you understand. But please be careful."

And it slowly unwrapped my heart and placed it in your care.

And from that moment,

you placed my heart safely in your chest

next to your heart, where I saw

that you had yours just as close to your soul.

I knew then that you understood parts of me that not really anyone understood.

You understand the complexities of my heart.

And you have some of the same ones.

You understand the habits of my heart.

And you have most of the same ones.

And I knew I needed to be careful,

And I still need to be careful,

But its almost as if it was God's way of whispering,

"This is it. This is how I created humans to be."

And I tell myself to not give in too much,

but I can't help but constantly be reminded that God made our hearts to remain together.

So I'm telling you today,

Thank you for your loving devotion to and protection of my heart.

Thank you for your genuine care.

Thank you for finding a heart-my heart- that beats the same as yours.

And most of all,

Thank you for "getting me."

With all my love,

The girl whose heart resides next to yours.
