My Hero

My hero is not one found in pages or in fairytales

My hero is found in the bitter disappointment of life

My hero is found in the deep cracks of my grandmother’s hands

My hero is found inside my head where it can’t be touched or tainted

My hero is one that cannot be molded to be like others

My hero is the life others before me have lived

My hero is the memories and struggles of my mothers

My hero is the sadness and loneliness of my fathers

My hero is the furious and mean fights of the adults

My hero who has survived this fake world with its fake people and fake smiles and fake sympathy
