My Hometown

Trees provide a shady canopy,
a majestic river flows throughout the ‘hood.
The air maneuvers its pathway swiftly,
with a faint whistle of the little engine that could.

The river provides water for me,
it travels to my house through a well.
My tap water is most delicious for tea,
Many say my tea parties have been swell.

I have apple and plum trees here and there,
and I not only enjoy these fruits.
I like to share them with many deer,
but lately the dogs have been brutes.

The people around here have a lot of fear,
as bears, cougars, and coyotes roam the area.
I’m sure the animals feel the same with humans near.
Everyone should just calm down from their hysteria.

Surprising is the amount of remaining ancient trees;
beautiful and beneficial to all.
For long ago there was a mill and logging company,
which is definitely no mall.

Inhabited by Native Americans,
The city was named after the chief.
Sultan lead these peaceful Indians,
and the land was shared with no grief.

The land is great for farming,
proven by the ones neighboring me.
I’m glad for the term “sharing is caring”,
because I receive bacon and eggs for free.

The weather is fine I guess,
I mean c’mon, it’s Washington.
Though there was a time that winds caused a mess,
so I don’t have a trampoline to jump on.
I generally enjoy other creatures so,
although some can be a pest.
But I understand they come and go,
unless they decide to make their nest.

Big cities are overrated and crowded,
I wouldn’t want to live there.
I’m happy this is where I started.
Thank you for letting me share.
