My Inspiration

The air I breathe, the light I see,

This is what poetry means to me.

My Mother’s smile and gentle embrace,

Brother’s laugh and brightened face,

Make words appear upon my page,

They rapidly fly as though in a race.

Without nature and love,

Created by God above,

The poet’s hand would lie still unbidden,

No purpose for writing would be given,

Indeed, the poet herself would not exist,

Passion from her heart could not persist,

But God has been gracious to extend,

His inspiration upon the poet until her end.
