My Inspiration
‘Write!’ Mom said, her voice ablaze
‘Why?’ I answered, ‘for it’s just a cage
Of words and rhythm and strictest rules
Of boring topics that they plan in school.’
But she insisted, her voice so clear
Until just to silence her, I caved, ‘Yes dear.’
And so I wrote, a simple haiku
About how awful writing was, to be true.
But then in the waving of a batch of trees,
I saw a proud army, standing not at ease
A cloud became a castle, a barn became a ship
And all my beliefs of boring writing did flip!
Now I write all the time,
It is my voice, it is my rhyme
My emotions are freed, no longer caged
And in written words, my heart can rage.
Of a battered farm and an old blind mare
Of music and magic and love so fair.
The Bard’s Curse I have, to be assured
And of it I wish never to be cured!
My Mother’s wisdom is what awoke my song
And now I sing it all day long.
Notebooks fill my bag, my room, my desk
And writing fills the heart in my chest.
And now I go, my story told,
To write some more of a maiden bold,
Whom fights for right in a land of evil crew
Alas! I've said too much! I must bid thee adieu!
