My Journey of Self-love

Because I loved you,

I let you make decisions regarding my consent.

Because you loved me,

You stopped, but in a week, you would forget.

Because I loved you,

I gave up on my hobbies and goals that I pursued.

Because you loved me,

You stayed hoping that I’d stop being a prude.

Because I loved you,

I put up with the emotional labor you put me through.

Because you loved me,

You acted as if we were fine, never having a clue.

Because I loved you,

I gave you chances deluded you were the one.

Because you loved me,

You never took me seriously thinking I’d never run.

Because I loved you,

I stopped loving me.

Because you loved me,

You were too blind to see.

Because I stopped loving me,

It all fell apart.

Because you stopped loving me,

I began to see.

Because I started loving me,

I’ve been getting better.

Because I started loving me,

I am no longer tethered.

Because I started loving me,

I stopped loving you.

Because I started loving me,

I realized the ‘love’ we had was never true.
