My Laptop

Little did I know at the age of 4

my father had given me the key to the world:

strings of copper with plastic encasing

that flowed with the same electric spirit of my making.

At age 6 I entered school with key in hand;

The computer was no longer my play stand.

It became a tool of searching and learning;

My mind's gears began cranking and turning.

Age 12 came misunderstanding and rejection.

Again I escaped into its metalic induction.

I connected with people through sites online.

I expressed myself here when I couldn't offline.

My laptop was there when I had no other;

Strange to say, it was my second mother.

It helped me through hard times; it helped me stay sane.

My internet friends are my friends who remain.

Age 15 was my happiest year

When I met a boy with the same hopes and fears.

Our electric souls had bonded together.

Funny how this was through a hunk of metal.

Without my laptop their would be lots of friction;

My social life would be nothing but fiction.

This computer isn't just a tool to learn.

It holds my whole life; it has fufilled what I yearned.

My boyfriend and I just reached 4 years

And age 4, Yeah, that was a significant year.
