My Life in a Letter
Infant - Toddler years
Communication was tough, words never escaped my mouth, as I didn't know
how to form them with my small lips.
All I knew was to cry.
All I knew was the rumbling in my stomache scared me, and the fear overwhelmed
me into tears and shrieks.
When I fall, the pain stings through my flesh, where only screams and tears
streaming down my face told the tale of what I wanted, what I needed.
At least at the end of my toddlerhood
I was able to speak, "mama, I want this. Papa, gimme this,"
Naive to what those words meant.
Childhood
Friendship occurred the most here, alongside its silly drama and scandals.
Wanting to be like my Historical fictional hero, Zorro, I sent a letter to my
childhood best friend.
I drew a panda for her, and told her how I thought pandas
were cute, and how life would be more fun with more pandas in the world.
House phones were all I had in this day, with mama's permission,
I called friends and talked about Selena Gomez in that Cinderella movie she was in,
what happened at school the other day,
we sometimes even plan on playing online games together.
We had emails that we kept our whole lives but we were never able to keep
each other in contact. All but one I was able to keep.
Puberty
Everyone hated me at middle school, the new kid in this new town.
I hated everyone just the same.
Never spoke to anyone, not morning nor noon.
All I had was home, the computer to go to.
To talk to friends from lands I never explored, lands I thought were dead.
"Don't talk to them, they're strangers," my father said.
But I had no other friend, what am I to do?
When someone calls me ugly or stupid
or even compared me to a witch
I had the computer, and that's all I needed.
Adolescence
An upgrade helped rebelled against my peers.
Most of my friends aren't even here.
A portable computer fits in my hand.
My android, my offical cellphone.
Though I am disciplined in my ways, never texted in class,
I still went on my favorite websites, still talked to my friend on break.
I texted on kik and skype to my penpals, so my friendships would last.
Some people grew up back in my day, and they ended up on my contact list.
My old friend returned to me another day, and she joined the list of friends.
Though, I never fell in love, truly,
I only thought I had.
Boys came my way. A girl too.
All broke my heart, made me want to die.
The cheatings, the lies, the manipulation.
Girl, boy, didn't matter, they were all traitors.
I was lost in reality, I never learned what to do.
I only thought my true friends were to be trusted,
didn't think lovers weren't trustworthy.
All I knew was to cry.
Hate, then, became true.
Young Adult
Now, in college, I still have my friends.
I forgot my old flames, laughed all the way.
Lonliness bloomed over me, and of course, I applied to dating websites.
With precise inspection, I made sure I knew more to prevent naivete
Some sites for free, some I must pay a price.
Mostly Italian men, just as I liked.
Chinese, Korean, Japanese gentlemen are welcomed too.
Fell in love again, hope it stays this way.
In the meantime, before I finally meet someone, in person,
I'll stick to Kik and Skype. It'll be ok.
