To my life partner

To my life partner,

Before you came,

Resonance, Stamina, and I danced atop the unfaltering ground.

We enjoyed living in perfect harmony.

Everything we stood upon was steadfast, unwavering, and constant.

Before you, the ground which I stood upon never faltered.

Then you came, and day after day, night after night,

You placed me in a bottle and screwed the cap on so tight,

And as you violently shook me, you slowly suffocated me.

The room spins out of control, and soon I’m rendered unconscious.

I try to endure the shaking, but I never can.

You tyrannized me into feeling so wretched and frail.

Nowhere to hide, nowhere to go, nothing to do, but beg for your mercy.

Before you, Resonance and I were partners in crime.

Then you came and broke us apart.

You held him captive from me,

And replaced him with silence.

Hours upon hours, and days on end, you'd take away my ability to hear.

Everything’s white noise, nothing’s audible, I’m left confused and flustered.

Before you, no one could ever separate Stamina and I.

Then you came and ripped us apart.

Where Stamina once inhabited, Incompetence occupied.

You used to bully me into lethargy,

To the point of wanting to give up.

Constantly bullied by you, day after day, week after week,

Unable to withstand the pain, I buckled under your order.

You controlled me with the fear of another attack. Another painful moment of life.

Today, Incompetence is evicted from its recent dwelling.

And today, you rarely make my world spin out of control.

Today, silence visits here and there,

but I learned that resonance lives in silence too, for it isn’t just heard, it’s felt.

You’ve taught me that my stamina only grows stronger with each attack.

And from you, I’ve learned how to endure unrelenting pain.

Thank you Bilateral Meniere’s!

Thank you for the lessons you’ve taught me,

And countless more still to come.

Our life together has just begun, yet there’s so much you’ve already done.
