My life without a filter
Without a filter
My eyes aren’t as bright
My teeth aren’t as white
My hair isn’t always perfect
I don’t always smile
What the picture with the Lo-Mo filter fails to show you is,
The battles I’ve fought to get where I am
How I’ve gotten to where I can eat a piece of cake and still feel like I’m worthy
How my scars are fading and I’m smiling more
The way I laugh when my friend tells me a joke
What my real smile looks like when I’m happy
How my eyes light up when I talk about something I love
It doesn’t show the nights I stayed up helping my friends
It shows you what you think is me
But if it really showed me, if the pictures we put on social media showed people
Who we are
What we’ve been through
Where we’re going
People’s minds would change
Maybe the way we look at each other
Treat each other would change
Maybe one day our pictures will show who we are
Maybe one day we won't have to pretend just for the camera
