My Lifelong Wish

I watch them leap and twirl and dance.

I listen to them talk and laugh and sing.

I wish I could join them.

To swim alongside them in the endless cerulean blue.

To let the waters wash away my fears and limitations.

"It is not so hard," I hear them say.

"It could all be yours; if only you took the chance."

Why should I think them wrong?

Why should I wait any longer?

Not "It is too hard," but instead "Let us do more!"

Not "Someday I will," nay "Today I AM!"

And I will join them in the reflected sky.

And we will play and teach and learn.

And we will be as one, I and the rulers of the sea.
