My Light

Drifting through the abyss neither moving

In either direction, Her plan to keep

Her heart swooning since prior affliction

but she drank in his fire lit cognac eyes

with no desire to fight back false lies

told to herself to keep a safe distance

although it never stopped his persistence

Lit by the fire, a secret caught onto

An undisclosed promise, one way she only knew,

Avoid pain and worry, His knowledge and

Verses sculpted her oath’s obituary

With every barrier she placed

He melted it away, He was persistent

as he was careful, Gentle and kind,

never forgetting to be mindful,

Not long did it take her to

be captivated by his light, drawn to

a radiance she could no longer fight

She could see the way he took comfort in

her eyes, by appearance to him they were

an ever-changing green, but beyond them

a color she herself had never seen

bright pink roses clouding her vision

she swore her heart was still in remission

but due to his presence, a less cynical

view met her acquaintance, he whispered

“I love you”, a phrase she had grown scared of

not because it was new, but feelings she

felt towards him she was unsure of,

but soon then did she came to realize

the sensation she felt was much different than

before, because he had given love new

meaning, one she was willing to explore.
