My Lost Friend

My friend

I've known him for so long

Since we were young children to teenagers

Younger than me but fearless and brave

He had great dreams for the future

Could not wait for high school to start

So he could get his head start

Two years pass by

I'm a high school sophomore

He's a freshman

Haven't talked in a while

But we both missed eachother

Until

One night it didnt feel right

I woke up and checked my phone

My friends shocked and saddened

First thing I see is my friend on the news

He's been struck by a car while on a cruise

All his dreams and goals gone in a few seconds

Over a person's fatal decisions

His death changed my outlook on life

I realized I should pursue my dreams too

Because our lives could end any moment now

I don't want to let him down by staying where I am now

I want to make him proud

Because he was my friend and I never got to say goodbye
