My Lost Hero

I used to be so happy

with him by my side.

He was like my hero,

flying so far high.

I remember those days,

seems like yesterday.

All we did was laugh

before he really changed.

I just want to make him happy,

make him proud of me,

rewind time,

but this is my new reality.

A daughter with a broken heart,

crying herself to sleep because of one comment.

He should see the darkness in her eyes,

but she smiles from the pain she's trying to hide.

As I grow older, wiser, more full of life,

My eyes are open a little wider every night.

I realize how much I miss him,

and I ask,

why did he change?

He is no longer my hero,

just someone I call dad,

it's so sad to say,

but I know deep down,

this new him is here to stay.
