My Love
“I love you”
Three simple words
and ten tiny characters
cloud my mind.
I repeat them over and over,
trying to understand why
they mean so much to me.
The only real answer is because
they remind me of you.
“I love you”
You repeat and
my heart skips a beat.
I hold on to my last breath and
everything around me stops.
You’re beautiful.
Oh so beautiful.
Because I love you,
I want you to see how much
you mean to me
and to the world.
Because I love you
I will do anything to make you happy.
Your smile could light up the world
and the way your eyes dance
when you talk about the sports statistics
fills me with joy.
I do not understand them.
They’re just numbers to me,
but the way you glow
when you recite every play of the game
could keep me listening for centuries.
Because I love you,
I will support you.
I will tell you to go to the college of your dreams
or the job you’ve always wanted,
even if it means being thousands of miles away.
Releasing my breath,
I whisper back
“I love you too.”
