To My Love

she’s so beautiful,

her eyes a color i can’t describe.

they're not blue, brown, grey;

they’re somewhere in between-

it’s a misty haze.

she’s so precious,

her smile greater than any mile wide.

it’s not little, shy, too grand;

it looks perfect on her-

belonging in a fairyland.

with more freckles than stars,

with hair as golden as sand,

my only wish is that she would take my hand.

but she can’t.

i’m stuck in high school

while my love is off at college.

she’s finding her own love,

shes discovering herself.

she holds my heart,

while i’m just a close friend.

i, however, i have found my piece of love:

my love has eyes of an unknown hue,

a smile that can’t be measured,

freckles that embarrass a leopard with its spots,

and hair as perfect as a leaf in autumn.

my love,

oh my love can’t love me back.

the thing is, my love has a love.

her hazy eyes hold the gaze of another,

her smile beams in the comfort of her lover,

her freckles are traced by a tender hand,

her sun-kissed hair falls on a shoulder.

to my love,

i’ll keep waiting.

although Robert Frost has claimed:

“Nothing Gold Can Stay,”

my heart will continue to break as i watch the love of my life,

walking away.
