My Love
My love,
The fallen angel becomes a malignant devil.
There is rage in me the likes of which should never escape.
If I am not satisfied in the one,
I will indulge the other.
If I cannot inspire love,
I will cause fear!
My love,
Misery made me a fiend.
Nothing is so painful to the human mind
As a great and sudden change.
No man chooses evil because it is evil;
He only mistakes it for happiness,
The good he seeks.
My love,
When falsehood can look so like the truth,
Who can assure themselves of certain happiness?
Our souls are constructed,
And by slight ligaments are bound to prosperity
And ruin.
My love,
I had loved and cherished.
Once I falsely hoped to meet the beings who would love me
For the excellent qualities I was capable of unfolding.
A strange multiplicity of sensations seized me.
There is something at work in my soul,
which I do not understand.
My love,
So dear, so worthy.
I have love in me the likes of which you can scarcely imagine.
For the sympathy of one living being,
I will make peace with all.
