My Loyal Friend

Because that is the one thing

that could keep me

going.

The one helpful hand that lovingly

will try to maintain

my sanity.

Because once before

I was stuck on

a secluded isle

in an ocean of pain

with no one beside me.

Hope was the only

desired companion

besides the familiar misery.

Because when Pandora

opened her box

and unleashed the plethora,

of sins and toxicities onto

humanity,

Hope was the only one who

remained in sanctity.

Because not mother,

nor friend

or lover,

could give me aid.

In a desolate, lonely

place of my mind,

which ruthlessly

runs at its own time and stride,

I am mazed,

Aimlessly I stray.

Hope is the only one to have me saved,

giving me a compass to direct me on my way.

Because without hope,

despair and the devils of my mind,

capture my logic and whim,

And I become an island.

I am alone, desolate,

Unrecognized and undetected.

by anyone.

Because when the sun beams too bright,

burning into my tender eyes,

Hope will provide a promise of forthcoming night.

It will grant me the wings for flight

for sweet escape

from this forsaken plight.

Because in the past when I had been undone

by all my woes,

the only one I can rely on

was hope when it arose.
