MY MAMA, MY HERO
Dear mama,
I could write a poem a mile long and still there would be more to say about your strength.
I could tell a story for an eternity and it would not have half the length required to sing your praise.
When I look at you I see a light, and I'm afraid that you don't see the same.
When you look into the mirror, I'm afraid that sometimes you see shame.
I wish that you could see it for yourself, mama.
I wish that you knew what I knew, mama.
Your success isn't measured in dollar amounts like you think it is.
Your success is measured by the lullabies you sang to me while you tucked me in.
You showed me that we must face the darkness head on.
You fought for me, you showed me how to be strong in the face of overwhelming odds.
I have watched you bear burdens that would drown even the strongest man, guarenteed.
I have seen you hold those weights like they're nothing, you shoulder them effortlessly.
It is my hope that this little collection of lines could help win me some school money.
But I'm gonna send you this poem, and your smile is worth about a billion dollars more to me.
