My Mama Told Me
My mama told me to be positive
if the sadness comes don't let it free.
Sometimes the world can bring me down
but my happiness should depend on me.
She told me that I am beautiful
as she wiped a tear from my eye.
It doesn't matter what they say
I have so many reasons not to cry.
She told me focus on what I have
the things that make me smile.
There's air in my lungs and blood in my veins
and my legs can run for miles.
She told me that even though daddy went away
baby girl he still loves you.
And when he never called me back
she told me even without him I'd make due.
She told me all the right things
to make me see the silver lining.
That life is really just absolutely wonderful
there's never a reason for self pity, self doubt or whining.
