My Memories, Like Dust
As I sit down dust swirls around me
I touch the keys for the first time in years
At first I thought it would come back to me
But as I hear a plink all I see is tears
The last time my fingers pressed on these ivory keys
Was at her funeral
I breathe remembering who I used to be
It left me
As my hand brushed the black and white
I was lost like a feather at sea
As sorrow builds up I want to fight
For that beautiful ability
It once coursed through my head
Now I grasp at that fragile thread
Snow is drifting from the sky
Her breath is white in the moonlight
I can still remember when we were children
Never once thinking of the day we would die
She left unexpectedly like ink in a pen
Like a shadow she would leave
Her life a speck in the cosmos
A tract of time cut short in the weave
I look at my fingers
A layer of fine powder has formed
It felt like a distant life
I touch the keys for the last time
Knowing I will never be able to reclaim what was once mine
