To My Mender

Dear Healer,

Before you I was blind.

Eyes sewn tightly shut with light blue thread

And then

You came

You saw

You kissed my eyelids gently with those lips of milk and honey

And used that tongue of yours to break the blue thread that bound me.

Like the brink of dawn

Like the end of an era

My eyes peeled open,

Like the rind of an old fruit

And I looked into your eyes for the first time.
