My Mind

My life is extraordinary

It's simple, middle class, suburban

But it's mine

Every choice I have made has been mine

My room is mine

Most important

My mind is mine

I have opinions

And choices

And independent thoughts

And because my life is mine I owe people things

I owe my sister a thank you

for being there through a break up

I owe my brother a laugh

For always being my sense of humor on bad days

But I owe my parents everything

They gave me my life

My choices

But most of all they gave me

My mind
