My Mind

My Mind

If I do not have my mind, then I have nothing

For who will accompany me best on an island

Than myself

If I do not have my mind, then I cannot think

Think to find water

Think to find food

Think about greater days to help me survive on an island.

If I do not have my mind, then I cannot remember

I cannot think of the days when I was five

And my mother was always home

Or when I was twelve and my father finally came back

I cannot think of the first time

The first time I met you

The first time we found ourselves fumbling around

On a field that was almost an island

If I do not have my mind I cannot bring myself back to better times

I cannot remind myself that there is a world outside of this sandy shore

But more importantly if I do not have a mind

I cannot think of ways to get myself off this island.
