My Mirror

Where did she go, that girl?

The one who used to dream

The one who used to believe in

Things that she couldn't see

I saw her once when I was little

Standing by a bridge over endless sea

Staring up from calm waters

Reflecting her smile back to me

I looked to my side to see whether

Her smile was really so bright

But maybe she got lost in the water

Maybe I lost her to her own light

All I know is I grew up that day

Although the moment I can't remember

Because the girl I saw on the bridge

Once a flame was now an ember

Her eyes were huge and haunted

Just a little taller, shorter than she'd like

She knew the world, like she wanted

She just didn't know herself sometimes

When I looked at her it seemed

That something sparked her furor

In that moment, it occurred to me

That I was looking in a mirror.
