My Mirror
My mirror is my best friend and worst enemy.
It depends on the day.
My mood, my hair.
There is no changing what I see here,
No different angle or frame.
No cropping the ugly out.
No masking the shame.
There is just me. As I am.
No filters.
Is this all I am worth?
How beautiful people think I am?
Who said noses and eyes and hair mattered?
Who set the standard for height and weight?
Not me.
When I look in my mirror,
I don't see how my body looks.
I see what my body can do.
I see a smile that hides the best secrets.
Eyes that seek for the good and beautiful.
I see hands that can write epic stories,
And legs that can run faster then a hare.
I see a girl who loves to dance in the rain.
A girl who loves a good book.
A girl who dreams,
but is scared of getting hurt.
I see a thirst for knowledge,
A shimmer of hope for the future.
I see a gleam of courage and fearlessness.
I don't see who I am not.
I see who I can become.
Because people are beautiful.
They just don't realize it yet.
