To My Mom

Surprise, surprise! Expand the family tree
Don’t listen to others, please keep me
Work hard, no social life, spare your time
Sacrifice your life for the betterment of mine
I promise I will try to do as you please
Smile at the camera, always say “cheese!”

But sometimes, my rebellious side gets the best of me

We fight, argue, don’t speak to each other on days

You were trying to say “I love you” in your own ways
Making sure I stayed on the road to success
So I didn’t have to make the same choices that you had to digress
You pushed me, always gave me a lesson through the smallest events
As I went through life and all its contents
So here’s an ode to you, mom, in all its disarray
I’ve never called you my hero, looks like today is the day.
