My Mother's Daughter

Those warm summer nights I miss, when I was so much younger They were so much different than this, days so full of wonder. Years went by and we became so strange, we grew so distant and far apart Too much change, it broke my heart. I grew to be just like you, smart and beautiful Looking at how time flew, those memories much more meaningful You were more than a friend just like a sister, you gave me life, gave me strength Taken away from me by your mister, our friendship shrank to a small length. Now I’m the oldest or your babies, flying away soon on my own Grown to be an independent lady, I will be back to visit home Never forgetting the times we shared, you’ve helped me through rough waters You’ve always been the one who cared; I will always be my mother’s daughter.
