My Mother's Prisoner

Locked in a room

On a wooden crib - curled

Head on tear-stained pillow

One leg tied to crib bar

I was my mother’s prisoner

I fought hard not to pee in crib

Or she would get into a fit

Food was given but oft’ bad

Water – hardly a drop to spare

I was my mother’s prisoner

She pulled me by the hair

Dragged me to the floor

To eat up the food I dropped

Then back to crib – leg tied

I was my mother’s prisoner
