My Mother's Weapons

The long measuring ruler

Used by seamstress

You used it oft’

Not just for tailoring

You hit me with it

Chased me out from my dance class

My dream you shattered

I wanted to be a ballerina

You did not allow

When the ruler is not a weapon strong enough

You went for the tailor scissors

I never thought that you would pick

Another weapon

On me hit

Not the pointed part but the end of it

With that you hit me hard on my head

It hurt so bad, choked with tears, couldn't scream

The bumps nobody could see

Were you trying to murder me?

Sometimes I wish you did

Cos’ with all the weapons you used

Unfortunately, you did not succeed

Then you turned to chemical weapons

From ointment to washing powder

Mixed with water

All forced down my throat

Am I your foe?
