My Ode to Poetry

Because of you my emotions were able to be unapologetically expressed

You gave me the freedom to rebel against authority and the rules of prose

You allowed me to use you for healing and for art

I love that you are accepting and tolerant of me

When I make a mistake, you don’t judge me for it

When I don’t rhyme, you don’t care

Because you still manage to make beauty out of my words

When I’m with you, I escape from the ways of the world and

I am left with your serenity

Thank you poetry, for making me who I am
