To My Old Friend Fear:

In dreams I go back to the places you used to take me.

Rooms with four walls and no exit,

libraries full with everything I have done wrong,

concert halls where you sang your twisted melody.

You’re charming in a reeling way.

Handsome with your razor teeth and amber eyes.

At your peak you ruled my life

like it was an empire that you could command.

You crumpled me like paper

and I was awed by how easy it was for you.

Even now my heart races at the mention of you,

my shoulders tense, my hands cover my face.

You are just so easy to bump into

and I know that you’ll come back one day.

You'll saunter in like you never left

and maybe you didn’t,

but for now I’m occupying my time.

Writing over your words with my own.
