My One Dream
Tell me,
How is it that one may only live long enough,
Long enough to blow out the candles on their 5th birthday cake,
While others may live to be ninety-four?
Why is life so short for some,
And so plentiful for others?
No one deserves to have something,
Something as precious as life,
To be ripped right out of their hands.
As I sit back and ponder these questions
Endlessly filling my mind,
I can not help but think deeper.
I think about my own experiences.
I think about my grandmother whom I have never even met.
I think about my bestfriend’s brother.
I think about my grandpa.
I think about the little boy with the biggest smile I’ve ever seen.
I think about my mother.
I think about that one time I went ice skating with my Uncle Dean.
I think about Christmas spent at my Aunt Linda’s with Pop-pop.
I can’t help but think about all these people.
All of their lives were impacted so greatly,
In just a matter of a few short weeks.
I think to myself.
I would do anything,
Anything to change what has been done.
If I could,
I would have taken those dangerous cells,
Taken those cancer cells,
And removed them right from their bodies,
And I wouldn’t stop there.
I would find a cure,
Find a cure for the incurable.
This is how I want to spend the rest of my life.
I want to make a change,
A change that will keep families together,
Keep smiles on people’s faces,
And fill their minds
With nothing but hope.
This is my dream.
