My One True Need

Music is all I need to live.

It shelters me from the terrible silence

I drink in its delicious sensations and realization

and am clothed immaculately in its rhapsodies.

Music is a universal language.

It thrives where words falter

The most fatal of wounds heal with its touch

It exists across continents and throughout time

Music thrums with great power.

It ends wars and brings peace

It creates fairylands and battlefields.

Some are astounded by it, others fear it.

It can stand obstinate and unchanging like a stone

or flourish and develop like a young wood.

Music is a living, breathing existence.

Sometimes it keeps me company when I am alone.

I hear it scream and rage with passion

It keeps me up at night with its great complexities.

A Great Painter, it renders the world around us in multicolor

And I am lost to the world as it steals my mind.

This is all I need to live.
