My Only Company

The darkest place to be at night,

Is my mind.

The demons are howling at each other.

They argue about who torments me most,

Who can make the most impact on my mental state?

The demons always win,

I can only sit on my cold tile floor,

Legs pulled up to my chest and scream back.

Scream about how much it hurts to lose.

That maybe I could finally ignore them and win for once.

They only snicker at me,

And continue to scratch the black void behind my eyes,

Begging me to let them out.

I lift my face to the sky and let them tumble to the back of my head.

Because if I let them out, who will keep me company?
