My Outer Layer

Originality, individuality, isn’t my outer layer.

My caramel skin tone, and sleepy eyes isn’t so rare.

Some people hate me, but what can I say?

The ones who love me will still be there at the end of the day.

I couldn’t be happier of the way God created me to be.

I just want people to realize my outer layer is only one part of what they see.

My heart is bigger than the sun.

My personality is like no one.

I want people to see I’m not part of the stereotype.

I’m not dangerous just because I’m not white.

My point is we shouldn’t let our outer layer interfere or come between us.

No matter our outer layer, getting along is a must.

I’m no better than her or him.

And you are no better than Kayla, Matthew, or Tim.

Always know who you are,

And no matter our outer layer we are all a star.

Love yourself and your nationality

Because we are all the same in actuality.

My outer layer is only one part of what people see

And now I hope it’s quite clear that my heart is what really defines me.
