My Own Choices
In the midst of our lives we see truth,
we see what we always knew
but we never acknowledged.
Some see the truth of themselves,
others the truth of our world.
I see the truth of both.
I see the truth of power and control.
the truth of corrupt society and need
for command over the people in the world.
I, too, see the truth of control over our own lives.
I see what it means to be able
to control what you want in life.
I see what it means to be able to
choose who you want to be with.
I want to be able to see what it would
be like to have that control.
To have that power.
I want to be able to control who I see,
as friends and romantically.
I want to choose what I do with my life,
career-wise and personally.
To be able to have control of my own life
and not face consequences
of those who believe I should not be allowed
to make life decisions.
I am a woman, and I am strong.
I should be able to choose where I belong.
