my own colorado


i used to take the view for granted
but after being away, driving down that baseline
and those giants of nature are still standing guard in the west

the sky isn't the same anywhere else. its a living being here
some sort of malleable and divine entity--its the stuff legends and myths
come out of

and the image of my bicycle against the red door of the used bookstore
is the one i'll think of when i'm old and sifting through memories
