My Own Love

I've never known what it feels like

To be complete on my own

Until you came and showed me

That I am brilliant and beautiful

This type of love

Has brought me back from the edge

The kind that leaves you smiling

Long after you are gone

The kind that leaves you secure

And brings you a glass of water

Before bed

That lets you walk without a leash

And hope without a bound

The board with the tally marks

Has been left at the door

Because I love you

I would never keep score

Arguing is no longer

A threat to end

But a means to be better

For the future of our love

This love doesn't ask

It is already satisfied

And I feel so fulfilled

Love doesn't need to be mentioned

To know the intention

My lover, my dear

I know it is greedy to ask for forever

So I will settle for today

Because I love you.
