My Own Play

Just listen to what I have to say.
Yeah, I remember that day
you told me that I should stay
at home out of fear that I'll be outplayed.
You said someone else will take my dreams away,
that it'll be their field-day.
But as you know, I went anyway.
And, as you know, I did more than okay.
I was the predator and they were my prey.
I really need you to grasp this essay,
since this is my moment to convey
how you couldn't have been led more astray.
I think we are both glad I did not obey
what you had to say.
But now you believe I only think one-way,
that I only want disarray.
Although this sounds so cliche,
I really want us to meet halfway
as I am who I am because of you today.
You are my valet
guiding me through life without delay.
Even if they are far away,
I am sure better times are on their way,
where things won't seem so gray.
I really don't want relationship to decay,
since nothing can change our DNA.
However, you must know I have some things to say.
Sometimes I am going to make my own play.
But regardless of how far I stray,
You must always remember this, if I may,
each and every day
I am trying to become your prodige.
