At My Own Will

Church bells vibrated harshly through the religious waves

Appearing peaceful, quiet, soft

But I don’t hear the light devout sound

I pick up the deep base tones cloaked over

By soft flutes, violins, and grand pianos

I do not stray away

From the easy sound overlaying the heavy

I comprehend it

But don’t trust it

It tugs me to this brightness most pray

I pry its forgiving old hands from my rough, jagged fingertips

I see it

Just don’t step towards it

Then it unlocks its gentle disguised, forceful pull

Allows me to step away from its persuading melody; quick, inter-changing, loud beats

I force away from, it’s something I have grown apart from

I am the solid beat gently in the background
