My Painting

I would paint you a picture,

but I don’t know how to paint.

I would paint you a picture

to show you how beautiful the world is.

How beautiful the world looks through my eyes,

and how emotions surge from my heart like waves.

But…I don’t know how to paint.

So I decided to draw you a picture…

with my words.

With my pen as my paintbrush,

I draw you into this world I create.

And it’s magical.

I can tell you a story as vivid as my own, or as fictional as a dream.

But with each poem, each story…I have a message to share.

And I’m honored that I get that chance.

My poetry sets me free.

As I child, I was quiet.

And as I got older, that silence transcended into

a million different thoughts I could never express.

At first…infatuation, then later, love and heartbreak.

Anger bubbled inside me like lava, just waiting to erupt.

I had not outlets to plug in, and let go.

So I wrote.

It’s my escape, my release, my hand-crafted painting.

It’s my vulnerability, my honesty, and my expression of faith.
