My Parents' Old Couch
Hiding behind my parents' old couch,
My eyes follow shards of glass across the room;
I tremble with fear and wish myself out.
I've seen this play out, and heard them say, "ouch",
One too many times and more I assume;
Hiding behind my parents' old couch.
My mother sometimes screams and she sometimes shouts,
At the top of her lungs, her face filled with gloom;
I tremble with fear and wish myself out.
My dad marches towards my mother who is slouched,
And she throws a pot with flowers starting to bloom;
Hiding behind my parents' old couch.
I cannot unsee the things I have seen, no doubt,
This life, for me, has always been full of doom;
I tremble with fear and wish myself out.
Now, five years later, I have become quite a grouch,
I still get chills when I enter that room;
Hiding behind my parents' old couch,
I tremble with fear and wish myself out.
