My people

My people have come far, but the road to where we are today was tough Though we were human, saying "stop" wasn't enough. We now have the right to vote, though we were hosed in the streets, We went from the right to remain silent to Dr. King's famous speech. He spoke of a dream, a dream of equality and peace Not just for brothers and sisters, but for whites, Hispanics, Japanese What kind of man would he be if he only spoke for freedom for his people? What kind of country would this be if we prevented a great man from conveying his message at his steeple because of the color of his skin? It was Dr. King who helped shape our culture today so that we wouldn't face the repercussions from back then.
