For My People
For my people who dislike today’s music
and will forever love old tunes better
who sing in the shower
who keep the doors to their rooms shut tight;
secluded, drowning in music by underground bands
For my people who’s lives are
consisted of awkward moments
who can’t dance if their life
depended on it
who learn from their mistakes
and get annoyed really fast
For my boys and girls who want to
make it huge someday
who try so hard to make others smile first
who stay true to themselves
who are determined to make a difference
and want things they’ll never have
For my people who don’t wanna grow up
who have no motivation for anything
who aren’t tough
who screw everything up
who have no freedom
and are kept waiting
For my teenagers who can’t sleep
before 10 PM anymore
because their secrets keep them
awake at night
who hate fights
and hate being alone
who live off of twinkies and cupcakes
and don’t know where they’re going in life
For my people who are always friendzoned
who are waiting for that one person to like them back
who are heartbroken and hurt
and constantly made fun of
For my people who feel as if they’re invisible like ghosts
who don’t fit in with their group of “friends”
who get frustrated because they’re misunderstood
who are still insecure no matter
how many times they’re called perfect
and wish they had more confidence
This is for my people
