For My People Experiencing Homelessness

For my people

Who share the same home

As your neighbors

And as me.

For my people

Who have been dealt unfortunate cards

And ended up on the street,

Unable to pay for housing,

Healthcare,

Or childcare.

For my people

Who have a population of 3.5 million

Each year.

In which the average age is

Nine

Years

Old.

For my people

Who are all viewed to have the same story:

Veterans

Mentally ill

Drug abusers.

Yet, have you asked yourself if this is really true?

Look at the families

Who appreciate my volunteer work at the shelter.

Who open up to me at dinner

And share their stories -

What made them different

And yet the same.

Who trust me with their kids -

Who just want to play! -

While the parents go wash their clothes, talk to their friends, apply for jobs

So they can successfully move their family out of the shelter

Without being in the shelter for a prolonged amount of time.
