My Personal Glow Up: Welcome to the Real World
Life as a child is quite simple, but as time goes on we must all leave Neverland and become an adult.
I often reminisce about childhood and the simpler days when I could rely on my parents for everything and nothing really seemed to matter other than toys and who I was eating lunch with.
My childhood was filled with introverted and shy interactions with individuals who I barely knew, but soon became friends with.
As time passes by, I got older, but still feel like a kid in spirit.
But only one word can encapsulate when I felt as though my childhood had come to a screeching halt and that is COLLEGE.
I had known college was coming and I ready for it, or at least I thought I was. As it turns out I was not completely ready for the initial shock.
I remember last year being all giddy to start this new chapter of my life and could not wait to leave my toan behind, but I didn’t realize that as soon as I left home I would be incharge of my own life.
My parents brought me to move in day last August , unloaded everything from our three hour car journey and put it into the empty space that would become my dorm room. Some time had passed, yet it went by in the blink of an eye, my parents were leaving me.
This was the true moment I felt as though I was an adult. Sitting among the boxes, bins and the mountain of things that I had brought, I knew it was up to me to clean this room and make it my own. There was no more help from mom and dad. They were no longer a few feet away from me, they were 180 miles away.
This was the moment that I realized this whole college business was really happening and not just something that I was planning for in my head and on Pinterest. It was real life. There was no going back and I only had up to go from here. My adult life just begun as soon as that first box was opened up and I haven’t looked back since.
