My Phoenix Heart

My heart was a phoenix.

Glowing, glowing, glowing.. Ignited by your smile, Blazing forth for all to see.

Burning, burning, burning. Tongues of flame enveloped it Like the surface of the sun, Covered in scarlet hues. And when I thought of you.. It burned midnight blue. Dazzling and radiant wings of fire Carrying me high above the clouds And higher, higher, higher. I thought i could touch the sky. Nothing could describe, The joy, The wonder, The peace. And then, You were gone. And when you left, My heart left with you. The flame that burned inside me.. Went out. It smoldered Among fallen embers and broken memories, Flashing before my tearful eyes as it scorched, seared, singed. Where there once was an inferno.. Now only ashes. Where there was a spark… Where there was light and warmth.. There is only darkness and the cold. I was once whole. Now i am only fragments. Ruins of what happened. Remains of what could have been. Is this how I am to live?... Cold and broken?.. Will i be left Forgotten among tendrils of icy wind, And blotted out amongst the grey ashes? Is this my end? My death?.. … Whispers in the dark.. No! Never! ……….but……….. Somehow From deep in the dark recesses A tiny spark sputters …………..fingers of flame grow …….ignited by the intensity of my will The scattered pieces arise, knit together, Creating my form I become Brave enough to face what i fear. I am Resilient… I am Ready I am Reborn from millions of sparks. Rising from the grave, With these wings of renewed flame, I will soar higher and farther than ever before. Yes.. My heart is PHOENIX.
