My Pills

I’m not addicted

If that’s what you think

I’d never go there

That’s a line

I know not to cross

I know what drugs

Can do to someone

I’ve seen the damage

I’ve lived

In the aftermath

My pills are different

My pills are a security blanket

To be there

When I need them

So that maybe

One day

I can leave this world

Leave it all behind

My pills

Are my escape plan

My eventual release

To the door

That I will cross over

When the weight of the world

Becomes too much

To bear
